2-6-0 Mogul Locomotive
The Mogul did not have factory DCC or sound. It was a simple, older, track powered loco. This one was pretty simple to figure out after having gone through some major reverse engineering exercises on the WVP&P Mallet and then the Shay. I did the same smoke unit retrofit seen on the Mallet and Shay. The only other thing to do here was disconnect the track power pickups, and reallocate some of the wiring between the loco and its tender.
I did some kit bashing on the tender body to make room for a battery. Battery, speaker, and wireless DCC controller are jammed into the tender.
The Mogul was about as close as anything I had on hand that would somewhat match the locomotive in Back to the Future III. It turns out the DeLorean is available as a 1:24 model in original stock version, or all three versions of the movie mods, with III being the most ridiculous of course.
I still need to build the "End of Track" barrier seen in the movie. When I put this on display, it is one of the most photographed features on my layout, even if it is the silliest feature.
