The layout expansion added 2020-2022 includes a mining mountain and a mining train. Details of building the mountain itself can be found under the topic "Layout Expansion". A couple of the finer details adding to the mining theme are noted below.
I wanted to interior of the mine to look like an old west mine, not just a hole in the mountain. It occurred to me that creating fine detail deep in the mountain after it was built would be a challenge. I decided to build the tunnel as a pre-fabricated module that would later insert into a rough opening. This is a photo looking into the finished tunnel.
